Real estate: Graduate training for chartered surveyors

Like many professional organisations, this leading firm of chartered surveyors has an intake of graduates every year. These rising stars have graduated from top universities and already write at a high level. But they’re used to writing for academic tutors rather than busy clients.

Every year, we run a business-writing workshop for the graduate intake. The workshop’s aims are to introduce the graduates to professional writing standards, develop their skills and build confidence.

We cover techniques for planning a document, creating a logical structure and expressing ideas in professional yet readable language. We also provide a comfortable environment for asking questions. Throughout the workshop, we discuss the differences between academic and commercial writing to help the graduates adapt their existing writing skills to their new work environment.

‘The course was a great introduction to business writing and highlighted a number of concepts which are often not thought of when writing in a business context.’
